Genetic Diversity and Utilization of Cultivated Eggplant Germplasm in Varietal Improvement

چکیده

Eggplant is the fifth economically most important vegetable in Solanaceae family after tomato, potato, chili, and tobacco. Apart from well-cultivated brinjal or aubergine eggplant (Solanum melongena L.), two other underutilized species, African (S. macrocarpon L.) scarlet aethiopicum were also cultivated with local importance where leaves fruits are used for food medicinal purposes. The major objectives of breeding program to improve fruit quality, increase yield performance through heterosis breeding, introduce pest disease resistances wild relatives. Europe Asia hold a wide collection germplasm resources significant potential genetic improvement. While susceptible several fungi bacteria, many relatives offer resistance these pathogens. In this paper, we review diversity its As point departure, examine economic importance, domestication, taxonomy characterization, relationships crop evaluating safeguarding highlighted, as highly underrepresented. A key section study an overview dedicated resources, biotic abiotic stresses, pre-breeding, sustainable production.

Genetic Diversity, Population Structure, and Resistance to Phytophthora capsici of a Worldwide Collection of Eggplant Germplasm

Eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) is an important solanaceous crop with high phenotypic diversity and moderate genotypic diversity. Ninety-nine genotypes of eggplant germplasm (species (S. melongena, S. incanum, S. linnaeanum and S. gilo), landraces and heirloom cultivars) from 32 countries and five continents were evaluated for genetic diversity, population structure, fruit shape, and disease re...

Genetic diversity of eggplant (Solanum melongena) germplasm from Turkey assessed by SSR and RAPD markers.

Eggplant is a major crop in Turkey, which produces more of this crop than all of Europe; consequently, germplasm resources are of concern for the country. Molecular characterization of eggplant genotypes collected from different geographical regions of Turkey was carried out using SSR and RAPD markers. With amplification of five SSR loci, the number of alleles per microsatellite locus ranged fr...

Study of genetic diversity in bread wheat germplasm using nitrogen uptake and nitrogen use efficiency characteristics

In order to evaluate the traits related to nitrogen utilization and to identify the superior genotypes, 33 bread wheat landraces along three check cultivars of Chamran and Koohdasht (from Iran) and Gobustan (from the Republic of Azerbaijan) were studied in simple lattice statistical design with two replications under two treatments of non-usage and application of 200 kg/ha ammonium nitrate fert...

Study of genetic diversity in pomegranate germplasm of Yazd province of Iran

A total of 117 pomegranate genotypes collected from different areas of Yazd province of Iran were studied for genetic variation by evaluating 23 morphological traits according to the international descriptor. Similar diversity pattern of the measured characteristics was observed in three types of sweet, sweet-sour and sour varieties. The traits shape of fruit base, suckering tendency, vigor of ...
